"Invisible" Film Review - Akihiko Yamashita

Continuation of Modest Heroes from Ponoc Film is the third short film “Invisible”, directed by Akihiko Yamashita. The film is about a man who is invisible to everyone who strives to restore the brilliant effervescence of life. Personally, it is a film that is catered to adults since it is more relatable to those who have felt as if they were invisible. I can absolutely relate to this film for I feel as though I can be invisible sometimes to others around me. In which there are its high points, such as getting away with stuff. However, there are its low points in which a lot of people don’t notice you until you actually do something impactful. In which case, this film demonstrated perfectly a life of an “invisible” person. I definitely enjoyed when the invisible man went on this epic journey to being frustrated about the fact that he is invisible and is then swept away from the wind, blowing him around place to place. In which is symbolic, for it represents all the hardships that comes in individuals lives and you have to go through all the trouble to get through it. Even when you are at the lowest point in your life, your subconscious keeps telling you to keep going, in which the old man with his service dog represents. We as the audience don’t get to see the old man’s face, but we can understand that the old man is similar to the invisible man and asks him “why are you here” and tells the invisible man to keep going on with life, not necessarily within those exact words, but within the meaning of the message he is giving. That is when the invisible man hears something and soon enough he is out of his low point and succeeds within fulfilling saving someone’s life. Despite being invisible to others, you know yourself that you are important in life. You yourself need to determine how much you make a difference in others people’s lives and yours. That is what the short film is about.

Once more, I recommend this short film to adults who feel like they are “invisible” who need that boost of encouragement that they are more than what they are. This film definitely will give you laughs as well hit the low points of the invisible man’s character.
